Ergonomic Evaluation

“Have a back pain? Your neck muscles have become stiff? Is that because you sit in an awkward position at your work station? You need an ergonomic evaluation and we do that for you.” Does this advertisement sound familiar?!

Ergonomics is the science of fitting work places to people’s body. Ergonomic evaluators focus on designing workstations to suit your body, with an eye toward safety, efficiency and comfort. Effectual ergonomic design gives comfort, reduces workplace injuries and increases productivity in your job.

Acute and chronic musculoskeletal complaints and work-related injuries are on the rise in companies these days, especially if it is a sedentary job. People sit in awkward postures, and/or have repetitive motions of the upper body that creates a massive amount of spinal and muscular complaints.

A thorough ergonomic evaluation consists of an initial assessment, which includes looking at the overall posture of your head, neck, back, upper body, forearms, wrists, hands, legs and feet , and if or not they hurt! The professional will then determine your risk factors, of pains, poor eyesight, muscular pulls, etc. The next step in an ergonomic assessment is to re-design the work space, and workstations that fit you specifically.  Lastly, a good ergonomist will recommend job modifications.  This is done through assessing work space, modifying your seat, looking at your monitors, keyboards, mouse, etc.  The number one goal should be to improve productivity while decreasing risk for injury. They also recommend a consistent break schedule and a stretching routine.

In today’s world, there are a lot of Ergonomic consultant companies who come to your company or work place and do the ergonomic evaluations for all the employees and after the assessment recommend changes to your work atmosphere. Thus your pain goes away and your work efficiency improves!
